Losers Lounge Show

Oy Vey……

*In order to get the full effect this should be read aloud in a Jewish Mother’s accent – “You never take me anywhere, I come home from work, slave away in the kitchen to make your dinner and you never appreciate me.” No Mrs. Trumpet didn’t say it exactly like that but it was along the lines of “we used to always have Super Bowl party plans.” Now before half of you readers start in on my ass with the “Yeah Cheap Ass Carbunkle Trumpet, why don’t you take the little lady out on the town.” We are leaving this Friday for some much-needed warmth and binge drinking so lay off!

We already had some plans going into the Cold Ass Weekend. We were going to see a play that our cousin was working in at her school. And another thing, it is cold as Balls up here, do you know how exhausting that is? Friday afternoon when we both got home we both took a nap and that hasn’t happened in a long time. After our nap we walked up the block to Manhattan Marymount where our cousin AL attends. AL is a fulltime student getting a degree in theater performance and double minor and when she isn’t doing all of that her little butt seeing every Broadway show known to man! She is a good kid and even will keep our Monkey heads when we sneak out of town.

The play was “Punk Rock” written by Simon Stephens and is based 6 student who attend an English Private School. AL told us on the front end that there would be some language and mature content and I am always down for some cursing and ‘awkward touch’ but this was a really good performance. It was dark and what I always appreciate about seeing something like this is that it makes you think afterwards. Hell, even at our dinner on Saturday night we were discussing the play. So thank you AL for the invite and please keep us on line for any future shows.

Saturday morning I had to take the Monkey Heads to the groomers and got some chores done. Earlier in the week Time Out Magazine mentioned that there were still some tickets available for Losers Lounge’s Tribute to Barbara Streisand. Maria was unavailable and because there were a small number of seats available (like right in front of the horns section) it was just me and Mrs. Trumpet. The show was great and as usual Joe and the gang killed it.

Afterwards Mrs. Trumpet and I went big balls and dined at the famed Le Coq Rico or as I called it “a chicken joint.” I will post separately about this joint because one can’t appreciate the meal that we had and I am nearing my 500-word limit.
So which one of you bastards wants to call me out for not taking Mrs. Trumpet out on the town? A play, a concert, a fancy dinner, plenty of good drink… Yeah That’s what I thought!

IMG_2649_LI (2)The Program from the play on Friday night. And until she wins a Tony or turns 21 whichever comes first you don’t need to know her name. We are very proud of her and know that she will be a success.

IMG_2660My view Saturday night at the show. Yeah my right ear is still ringing from this dude’s trumpet but it was a great show.

IMG_2669 (1)The Cast from “Punk Rock” from the program. It is neat knowing that at least 1 if not all will be preforming on Broadway or somewhere similar down the road.

IMG_2668I see that face and can’t stop thinking of “Meet The Fockers”

IMG_2663Sorry Grainbin Girl – Yes this is Chicken Stock Risotto with Shaved Parmigiano Reggiano and Black Truffles. It was decedent and good to the last drop!

Image-1It is always nice to know that Babs “Does Bring Me Flowers” as she sent this to Joe and the band!

So what did you Fuckers do this weekend? You still suffering from “Ring of Fire” from eating too many wings last night watching the Super Bowl?

Losers Lounge Tribute to The Bee Gees

After a summer hiatus the losers assembled once again at Joe’s Pub and naturally the Loser groupies got a table. This show was a tribute to those Australian boys and Disco Inferno super group The Bee Gees. We were missing some from our group so we invited Vivian Longstreet and her husband to join us. The First set was kind of a yawner as they played a bunch of ‘deep cuts’ that we enjoyed but come on, its a disco band. Play the stuff we know! Needless to say the Second act was much better and Vivian even joined the band and sang a duet with some schmo. “Islands in the Stream” was their choice and even though WordPress won’t allow me to upload the video it is a shame. Vivian killed it.

IMG_1932We were in the back this time. I swear we have not sat in the same seat in this joint.

IMG_1941Belize and ACMB Fans (lets see if any of you feckers read this) Doesn’t the Bongo Player look like Ken F of Ken and Mel? Sorry to hear of Ken’s passing. He will be missed.

IMG_1945Yep I was texting UWS Holly who was +6 hours ahead of us in South Africa. It was worth it!

IMG_1947Even Bjarni/Clem was impressed with their rendition of “Grease” or Lubricant as they said they were to be singing.

IMG_1950She did great!

IMG_1951Ahem Maria, can you get me a copy of that!

Hope you had a good weekend! If anyone knows how to take better pics at a concert please let me know. I suck at this.

Losers Lounge Tribute to Fleetwood Mac

The first weekend of June the Losers and the Joe McGinty 7 assembled one last time before the summer break. This show was to showcase the songs from Fleetwood Mac. This time we were joined by UWS Girl and Z Squared along with the other malcontents. No assless chaps like we saw at the George Michael show which probably scared EGP but there was a good duet.

IMG_0984I need some Bongo’s! Everything is better with Bongos!

IMG_0988I pretty much peed down my leg laughing from this duet.

IMG_0983Yes she is wearing a Kaftan and probably sporting a “bump it” too!

It was a great time and this October we will be jamming to…THE M’Effin Bee Gee’s!

Loser Lounge Tribute to George Michael

It has literally taken me a full week to finally formalize words to describe what I saw this past Friday. We have seen many a good losers lounge tribute. The Elton John Tribute back in the late 90’s was right up there with the best show seen. That was until this past Good Friday.

From Anna Copa Cabanna starting the set on a patrons table singing “Wake me up before you Go-Go” to Kalia Floreska’s version of “Careless Whisper” it was a helluva show. Naturally “Freedom 90” with the entire cast dancing with the audience was fun then there was “I want your sex”. Let me jus say that it is good to know that EGP is one of us because when dude threw down his velvet coat and revealed the banana hammock and assless chaps…..I am glad to know I won’t be the reason that EGP needs therapy when she gets into her mid 30’s.

Probably the funniest/off color song was Julian Maile’s “Heal the Pain” where he gave the great line “So Jesus died today but he will be back in 3 days. Pretty much anything goes!” Oh come on, you laughed at that. I know you did.  I am going to stop right there because I hear thunder in the distance.

IMG_0658I have seen some interesting Tie Bars before but this one looks a little restricting.

Have a good weekend. It is RoboPalooza this weekend as Momma is out of Town!

Have you ever seen a grown man sing “I want your sex” wearing Ass Less Chaps and a banana hammock on Good Friday?

Oh did I get your attention with that blog post? Well yes, it did happen to me this past Friday. Sorry folks but I don’t have enough time to really tell you about this. I am kinda bizzy but I wanted to make sure that I made a post on Easter Monday.

Oh and yes here are the pictures for you sick bastards.

IMG_0686Thanks to UWS H for the pics. I am sure she spit her drink out when I asked her last night for these pictures.

IMG_0688Soak it in there folks, soak it in. I have tried to drink enough Vodka this weekend to get this image out of my head and it hasn’t work.

Shout out to SBM on her first day of school in Baltimore. You got this!

Weekends are for rest right?

I am glad that the weekend is over. I am about worn out and it is only Monday! Now I promised my boss that I would not have “Whisky Voice” this morning so keep those “Oh CBT is hungover” because that isn’t the case. After our snow day on Thursday I had a bunch of stuff to get completed on Friday and play catch up. I get done with my day and head over to the Cigar joint for a quick cigar before I have to get ready to go out that night.

Friday night we headed down to Joe’s Pub to catch Losers Lounge tribute to Philly Soul. Not sure what that is? Think Teddy Pendergrass, The Spinners, The Delfonics and songs like “Love Train”, “Disco Inferno” and who could forget “You got what I need.” The show was great as usual and we headed to Blue Ribbon for a 1AM dinner reservation. Blue Ribbon was a mainstay when we would come up to visit Maria in New York. The fried chicken and oysters did not disappoint.

Saturday we slept in a little considering we got home at 3AM. I get my normal errands done and Mrs. Trumpet had to get some studying done. UWS Girl had mentioned about attending the Central Park Ice Festival Silent Disco and considering it was cold but not too cold I was game. Mrs. Trumpet stayed behind so I headed crosstown to W72nd street. Met up with her at an Irish Dive Bar by the name of Malachy’s. Trust me when I say that this place did not disappoint. The bartender was in her late 60’s and resembled Flo from the old sitcom “Alice.”  Headed over to the park and I learned something very valuable about free events in New York. Everyone and their brother will show up if you don’t have to pay for it. Met up with some friends to watch the Silent Disco for a while and ended up heading back to the house.

Sunday we had a friend in town from the old ACMB days and frequent offender of Belize Trips. Met up with her and her husband and tried ABC Kitchen for brunch. Let me tell you, the 3 week reservation that I had to get was well worth it. Hung out with LAB and her husband and we laughed and caught up. Since it was sleeting earlier in the day Mrs. Trumpet and I decided to behave on Sunday and she took a nap while I went to have a cigar with the boys. Made some spaghetti gravy/sauce and watched the Grammy’s.

teddyI have to say his Teddy Pendergrass is pretty good.

losers-loungeI should have pressed my parents to let me play the Tambourine in band.

img_0324I think they had a couple bottles of booze there.

img_0326At the Silent Disco. They have 2 DJ’s and people can either switch between the blue DJ or the red DJ. I guess the Blue DJ was jamming

img_0329Thanks again for the Vino and the California Oranges LAB and RB. I bet we will run into you in Belize in October! Love you guys.

Hope you had a good weekend too!

The Return to Loser’s Lounge

Back when we used to vacation in New York to see our Consigliore and friends we would try to always make the trip during Christmas. One year before our trip Maria mentioned that we should go see “The Losers Lounge” show in the legendary nightclub Fez below Time Café in NoHo. Not really knowing what “Losers Lounge” was about we said sure and she booked us some seats for their upcoming show.

Losers Lounge started back in 1993 by Joe McGinty who was the former keyboard for the Psychedelic Furs and session musician for bands like the Ramones. He put together a group of musicians who played in various bands in New York and abroad. Each show they do a Tribute to a band or musician that have included; Talking Heads, Burt Bacharach, Neil Diamond, David Bowie, Dusty Springfield, John Lennon, Elvis Costello, The Smiths vs The Cure, Queen, Roxy Music, Sony & Cher, Stevie Wonder, Rod Stewart and even Sesame Street. The show that we were to see was Losers Lounge Tribute to Sir Elton John.

I can’t recall all of the songs they played that night but it was unbelievable. There must have been 20 musicians on the stage at one time and some of the singers were really good or in the case of the song “Rocket Man” really bad but in a good way. We were hooked on it and had a blast. The next year before our trip we asked Maria if Losers Lounge was doing another tribute and she said that she wasn’t too keen on it but if we wanted to go to it she would get some tickets. The tribute was to Todd Rundgren and we were pumped! Yes, they played the infamous “Bang on your drum” and it brought down the house. To our surprise we were seated next to Liv Tyler for the show and again the show was killer.

About 2 months ago Maria texted us saying that she just got the notification that Losers Lounge was to do another tribute and this one would be to the late great artist “Prince”. We told her to get us some tickets so a table was reserved at Joe’s Pub at The Public Theater the new home to all Losers Lounge shows. Mrs. Trumpet was out of pocket this past weekend and since we only had 1 extra ticket we couldn’t find a third so it was just Maria and I for the 9:30 show on Saturday night.

The plan was to meet up at and have dinner at The Public Theater and a couple drinks prior to the show. Dinner was great and we took our places inside Joe’s Pub which is a quaint (yes I just used that to describe a music venue) small arena that probably holds 250. They print out the set list and they had 25 songs on the bill that night with one intermission. I am sorry but there really is no way to describe what we saw and heard. It was hilarious and really good. Some songs were good and some were bad but in a “I can’t believe that they did the song that way”! Next were the outfits. One singer belted out “The Beautiful Ones” in a sliver sequined robe that still haunts me 2 days after. When all said and done they played for 3 hours and we decided to book the December show. In December Losers Lounge will tribute to SIR ELTON JOHN again! God I hope the same guy who played Rocket Man is back. It still puts a smile on my face.
