Billy Joel Again? Number 102 in the Garden

No it wasn’t us muttering that sacrilege. I am not going to call out the person who said that (while drinking many glasses of wine, I might add) but this past Sunday when we got a chance to catch “The MSG House Band” we said “YES!” Now do you recall when we caught his act back in March of 2016? I can assure that you that William Martin Joel didn’t disappoint us at all for Show number 102. Think about it, the man has played 56 consecutive sell outs and he keeps saying that he will keep doing it as long as people still keep coming to the shows. Billy plays promptly at 8PM and he played for about 3 hours and didn’t disappoint at all. I do have a great video of the crowd singing “Piano Man” if you want it let me know and I can send it to you. Mary Louise is killing the rendition by the way!

Image-1

Boss Lady/Momma was very happy that he played “Only The Good” as it is one of her favorite songs. Me I am partial to “Italian Restaurant” and “New York State of Mind”.

IMG_4379He loves playing here and isn’t afraid to bust chops either. “I burned my hand with some coffee but this is New York so here I am!”

IMG_4380The band has been with him for a while. He even brought out a Guitar Tech to sing some AC/DC. Seriously how cool is it to work for someone who says “Hey, we are going to let you sing a song in the Worlds Most Famous Arena!”

IMG_4387Thankfully Kanye didn’t come out dressed as a Perrier bottle. Billy isn’t a fan of ‘that guy’

IMG_4386And all this shit was down and tucked away in 3 hours. Not bad work if you can get it.

And for those of you wondering if I am going to have another Sunday Funday concert I am not. I will be returning from a weekend trip so there won’t be any Instagram/SnapChat concerts on Sunday. Some of you are very nice and only called me a “Mother Fucker” twice.

Don’t Rock The Boat – Losers Lounge takes to the Hudson

You have heard about our many visits to Joe’s Pub to see The Losers Lounge. During the summer the Losers traditionally take a break and don’t perform but kick back up in the fall months. The next show is next month but there was a special performance that Vivian and Stone had purchased tickets and suggested that we attend. The show was a Disco Themed and it was on the Circle Line boat.

Joe and the Losers didn’t disappoint at all! Playing all the hits and with the backdrop of Manhattan you get the picture. It was cool as crap!

IMG_4341Fun Times with the Gang!

IMG_4311Still never gets old looking at this view

Thanks to Vivian and Stone for suggesting we do this. It was lots of fun

An Evening With David Byrne

Back in May when we were in the throws of our move to Brooklyn with WAY too much shit I recall seeing the two above tweets. AB is a professional concert goer and has seen many a good show. For her to make this revelation, well my interest was peaked. Now when I saw a similar tweet about the same show from JS, oh this got my full attention. Later in the day and I can’t recall who said it on Twitter but the comment “Top 5 Concert” was mentioned about the same show. Now that is a ballsy statement folks, you don’t normally have that strong of a review that many times about an outdoor Music Festival. Needless to say, I was on my iPhone googling his tour and found out that he would be playing in Brooklyn in mid September so I made note of it.

Mary Louise informed me about 6 weeks prior to show that she would be heading to Japan following our trip to St. Louis and wouldn’t be able to attend. I was bummed, I really wanted to see this show. A couple of days prior to our leaving for the weekend I was on the subway heading home listening to Pandora (how it works w/o not being hooked to internet the whole time, I don’t know) and a Talking Heads song came on. It was a sign so I texted The UES Russian and asked her if she would like to go to the show on a Monday. I booked the tickets, paid a kings ransom for the tickets but what the hell. You can’t take with you and when in doubt – You Buy The Fucking Concert Tickets!

Now here is where AB & JS are probably going to agree with me. There are really no proper words on how to explain the show to someone who hasn’t seen it. I know that is a Bullshit comment but I really can’t describe; The Energy, The Passion, The Strange, and The Music that went on this past Monday Night. They did have 2 hour 21 songs setlist as compared to BSMF but the energy that a 66 year old man puts into this show was unbelievable. Oh and they started this back in March and it is going to be a long tour too. David Byrne is a consummate artist and performer. After seeing this show on Monday night, Yes AB & JS – I agree with you 100% on your tweets.

Folks – If you missed it in Memphis, NOLA or all parts south, please pick out a city on the tour and go see it. Now I have failed to mention that the Kings Theater in East Flatbush is an unbelievable venue to see it. To explain it to my Memphians, think Orpheum but on Steroids. To see David Byrne in the Kings Theater – It was a Top 5 Concert Experience. Yep I went there too!

IMG_4277Opening the show with “Here”

IMG_4278Not a lot of fancy set creations here folks. It is just Music, Passion, and Energy being put on this stage.

IMG_4280This is what I was really impressed about this show was that all the music being produced on that stage came from the instruments that the band were carrying around. No sitting behind a 21pc drum set or keyboard for the Band. They carried their shit around and put on a choreographed show.

IMG_4281I am still in awe of this concert

IMG_4282I think we have a little bit of Elvis here with the drop light.

Thanks to the UES Russian for being my date and if you caught the show too I bet you can agree with me that David Byrne gets better with age.

We are caught in a Trap….in Westbury Long Island

A couple weeks back Maria asked us if we wanted to go to the ETA (That is Elvis Tribute Artist) show at the Westbury Theater in Long Island. My first questions were; “Where the hell is Westbury, and how do we get there?” We took the LIRR from the Atlantic Station (again it is so nice not having to go into Penn if we don’t have to) to the Jamaica station and made a transfer. Bill and Maria picked us up from the station and we made a quick drive to the theater.

I have to say that I was impressed with the venue and the line up. Granted it is geared towards the older crowd but the future line up includes; Wayne Newton, Smoky Robinson, Paul Anka and some others. As Maria said to us, Wayne Newton is someone on the list that you have to see before they die. Why do you think that I always go see Jerry Lee Lewis when he would play at MIM BSMF.

The crowd was into it. I gathered that there were a bunch of those in attendance who were in Memphis last weekend and then came back to Long Island to catch the show. Lots of Elvis and Graceland gear in the lobby. This years act was a full piece band and the ETA who were preforming were Cody Ray Slaughter and Shawn Klush who were big ETA winner either from BBC or Elvis Presley Enterprises. They played all the hits and were great with the crowd giving them what the King would done if he were still alive.

IMG_4020Poke Salad Annie

IMG_4016Viva Las Vegas

IMG_4022Mom why is everyone wanting my picture and this thing itches!

It was a good time in Long Island.

933 Days and I got it done!

What did I do that took almost 2 and half years to accomplish you ask? I am proud to report that I have the Entire Upper East Side of Manhattan (North of E60th Street to E96th Street,  West of 5th Avenue to the East River) speaking Southern!  It is a thing of beauty, I have everyone saying “hello” and “good morning” on the streets. Snapple and fizzy water has been replaced with freshly brewed Lipton Iced Tea. Bacon Lettuce and Tomato with Pimento Cheese has replaced the Gyro carts on the streets. And Finally the first Friday after Memorial Day everyone will be wearing Seersucker!

I am pretty proud of myself, I didn’t think I could do it. Hell, I even have my work family now issuing “Bless Your Heart” to people instead of saying “F You!”  So what is next for Carbunkle Trumpet you wonder? WE ARE TAKING OUR SHOW IN THE ROAD TO DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN! Yep! We are moving out of the UES and heading to the borough of Brooklyn! Home of Jay Z, Manbuns and Hipsters and I am putting all of you on notice! Ok, so the real reason could be that Momma has taken a new job so we have to move out of her employers housing but we are excited for the new adventure.

We looked at a number of different locations on this rock and other rocks and decided that we needed the following things;

  • One or two subway stops back into Manhattan and easily walkable
  • Multiple Subway Lines for when there are delays, cancelations or weekend repairs
  • Full Service Building so they can accept our Vodka & Wine fruit & vegetable deliveries
  • Office or business center shared space in common area
  • Outdoor space and maybe an outdoor grill for daddy to burn red meat
  • Had to be cool and have a neighborhood tavern (or two)

Downtown Brooklyn checked all the boxes so we started to find a new home in that area. We looked into one building but they would only allow one dog and since we have two that collectively weigh 11 pounds that was out. We found another joint that is just as good and pending the vetting process we are in. We are shooting for next week to move so don’t be surprised if this sucker is quiet next week.

Walking distance to the Barclays Center, right next to a University that we may know the head men’s basketball coach, it is a quick Subway ride to the Murphranks and there is an IHop on the Fulton Mall!

IMG_3004Roughly 13 subway lines I can jump on to get into the city!

imagesHere is the front of our Non-Hipster Building

Dattner-Architects_HubOasisAll186_web-1-840x580I mean this isn’t too bad for those 30 nice days of summer for us to enjoy!

IMG_3011Maya is saying “Wait, I like the UES! People tell me that I look cute and want to pet me! I don’t even like the Beastie Boys”

IMG_3012Maddy is looking forward to taking a wiz on the artificial grass in the dog run that they have. Yep she will peeing on Brady Bunch Astroturf!

IMG_3070This part sucks, basically because we don’t have much room to put shit

IMG_3069Office and Holiday Crap is in boxes!

IMG_3068You will notice that the Cigar Humidor and the Steve Bartman Bobble Head are still here. I will pack those last of course!

IMG_3067Blue Dogs are packed and ready to move to Brooklyn

IMG_3065Not to say that we don’t have a lot to offer but do any of your future residents make Logo Cornbread? Please accept us and can you make it quick, we are starting to get nervous!

We will keep you posted, till then I will be busy growing out my hair for the Man bun!

What is a Trip to Brooklyn without visiting Smorgasburg?

So we loaded up the double wide stroller for the dogs. I got my Man-Bun looking tight and we headed across the bridge to visit Prospect Park. Not sure what I am talking about? Consider a food truck rodeo/street fair but it is only food vendors selling their offerings.

Oh and it was probably 100 tents set up in the middle of Prospect Park! One could bring the family, a blanket, smuggle in a bottle of wine (not that I condone that type of behavior) and spend the afternoon eating their asses off. We walked around the circle once and determined that we needed some grease in our systems considering last nights debauchery. What is neat about Smorgasburg is that they are pretty vigilant about recycling and trash. Nobody sells plastic bottled water, they have paper cups instead. No Styrofoam containers, all the food containers are either that hard paper boxes or I saw a lot of people drinking drinks out of pineapples which was cool.

Probably the wildest was the native country food offerings here. Sadly there wasn’t a Pronto Pup or Funnel Cake vendor in the mix but we saw lots of food stalls that you see typically on Anthony Bourdain or Andrew Zimmer travel shows. Next time when I am not suffering from MPH we will have to give them a whirl.

IMG_2889Wait, you have a double double with Caramelized Onions on a flat top griddle? You guys ever been to Memphis? There is a joint at the corner of GE Patterson and Main….

IMG_2894Like I have always said, if you see a huge ass line for a food vendor you go stand in it because it has to be good.

IMG_2893Its like a Crepe but with Egg, Cheese, Pork and Green Onions

IMG_2892Very interesting to see them make this. Hey Gardo and Boo you guys are over there what is the deal with this and why is it so popular?

IMG_2895Hey I know what that means! Melted Cheese on things

IMG_2896If the Damn Neighbor were here she would have put up a chair right here and given them a credit card saying “Keep it coming!”

IMG_2891What a lovely day for a picnic I could only imagine how Maddy and Maya would have hated it.

IMG_2890Rolling Luggage at Smorgasburg? You guys are serious about eating some food aren’t you?

I would be remiss to say that the longest lines were for BBQ tents. I guess they love that Brooklyn BBQ scene up here.

And then it happened…….

So the Bar Wife/MILF and I would tweet each other this football season how much we hated football. Primarily this exchange was because our beloved Razorbacks sucked worse than Tennessee. Side note – I do worry that Bar Wife/MILF is introducing her daughter to all kinds of new curse words but only time will tell. I was telling her that she can become a Hockey Fan and I would even get her a New York Rangers sherzie if she wanted one. So far she is still sticking to her guns and not giving up on the Hogs. Before I go any further do you recall this POST when I called myself out for not watching much college football?

Well I did it again and this time I fear that I may be banned from Max’s Sports Bar because of it. Over the Thanksgiving holiday the work place had the suite in MSG. The event was for Red Hot Hockey which is Boston University vs Cornell in Men’s Collegiate Hockey. I invited some customers who actually were excited to attend the game (I found out that it is actually called a game instead of a match) and I got to take Mrs. Trumpet also.

As we were heading to the Garden I get a text from Utah TS asking me if I was watching the Iron Bowl (for you Yankees that is Auburn vs Alabama football game) and I had to call myself out. I wasn’t watching the game and was choosing ice hockey over college football. I know, I am kind of ashamed to admit it and I think that I may be also turning into the Las Vegas Canadian. #letsgoRangers

IMG_2272I am kind of ashamed to admit it to anyone but the Hockey was pretty good. And trust me when I say that the Fans get into it!

IMG_2258Since the Grizz are the new dumpster fire, I may officially become a fan of these guys.

IMG_2265Here is a cool thing that the Garden does. On the walls of the suite level they have pictures of past performers that have visited the garden. Yes that is Sting, Annie Lennox and Lenny Kravitz back stage.

IMG_0059Johnny and June Carter Cash

IMG_2266Elvis’ 1972 visit to the Garden. You got to represent!

IMG_2260Mrs. Trumpet – “man it is cold sitting in the seats”
Me – “Ice is cold honey.”

IMG_2262As usual the Garden was packed!

IMG_2263Fun Fact when Cornell scores they taunt the visiting goalie by chanting “It’s all your fault!” That didn’t go over too well with my work momma who’s son is on the 8th grade hockey team and is the goalie.

So hopefully when I visit Max’s Sports Bar in December the will serve me beer. I promise not to ask if we can put on the Rangers or Islanders if they are playing. I promise.

I hope you had a good laugh today.

The things you see running the marathon

Like I said earlier this week if you have never witnessed a Marathon it is a special time. The New York Marathon is a huge and as Katherine Switzer said; “If you are losing faith in human nature, go out and watch a marathon.” She hit the nail on the head with that comment.  Below are some funnier costumes we saw this past Sunday.

IMG_2111The Blues Brothers braving the rain on 1st Avenue

IMG_2110Wizard of Oz runners. S/O to the St. Jude Hero in the back of the picture

IMG_2109Dude don’t fucking Marathon and Text! That is Rule 2 behind ‘get nipple guards’

IMG_2101Um ok, I get it Mario

IMG_2100Yo Luigi, you better get your ass in gear, you be running second

IMG_2112She.Is.Wearing.Flip.Flops.For.A.Marathon. Yes saw that too!

IMG_2098I can’t really give them grief because if I ran this far I would be wearing a Tu-Tu also

IMG_2097In the middle of the 2 yellow shirt runners is a blind person. How cool is that!

IMG_2088Viva France!

IMG_2081Ok, I will bite, I guess that the other superheroes took the day off

IMG_2079Didn’t know it was a formal affair!

IMG_2078Running Aztec or is he a Mayan.

IMG_2072Don’t mess with his Tu-Tu

IMG_2080He must have lost a bet

andi and joNow the 50K runners who finished the marathon got a medal but these two were the real MVPs of the Marathon. They kept us in ‘bottled water’ after the Quitter Bus went by. Love me some J & A!

Have a good evening, it is supposed to be cold tomorrow!

“I have made a huge mistake” or “I am going to finish this Mother Fucker!”

Sorry for the profanity right off the bat. Those were the two very different comments from Marathon Runners said to the Asian Fireman and I yesterday. Happy Marathon Sunday Folks! From what I learned yesterday there are two huge events in the UES that one should attend; St. Patrick’s Day and Marathon Sunday. The previous two Marathons were either spent in bed with MPH or last year when Ba and “The Lady Killer” came to town.

This year the Asian Fireman and I hung out on First Ave to cheer our friend Stuart who decided to fly across ‘the pond’ and pay good money to run in 5 boroughs. The weather was great for the runners this year. Well aside from the rain but it wasn’t too hot nor too cold. If you have never ran a marathon you probably won’t get what this post means. Hell I wogged (walked & jogged) the Memphis half Marathon about 5 years ago and I hated it. I couldn’t imagine doing 26 miles much less a 5K these days.

Regardless, there were a bunch of significances and noted stories for this year’s marathon. One was the retirement of Meb Keflezighi who is one of the most celebrated US long distance runners in history. Second was the return of Katherine Switzer who was the first woman to run in the Boston Marathon. If you don’t know who she is, go ahead and google her. She is pretty special with regards to women’s rights. Oh and she was running the NYC Marathon at age 71 years young. My 47 year old ass got tired standing there in the rain yesterday.

And finally we were there to celebrate our buddy Stuart who was running on behalf of the MacMillan Charity. Stuart did a fine job yesterday and finished the beast. Also running in the marathon was Jessie who was also a friend of Mrs. Trumpet and mine. Great Job gang! Hope you had a blast and enjoyed the ride!

IMG_2047To say that security was tight is an understatement. We were not allowed to cross the street starting at 8AM and the cops didn’t play.

IMG_2052Here come the ladies. The order of the race is; wheelchair, ladies elite, men’s elite, general masses X5

IMG_2053Blonde haired runner in the middle of the pic, yep that is Shalane Flanagan and she won the women’s elite!

IMG_2058To say that the women were running fast is an understatement.

IMG_2060One of the wheelchair marathoner’s

IMG_2063Here come the Men’s Elite division

IMG_2065Tight Pack of runners, how they didn’t knock into each other I will never understand.

IMG_2066There he is folks, 42 years old and running professionally. He finished 11th this year.

IMG_2068Meb had more press and security around him than anyone! I am glad to say that I saw him run by me at 8mph!

IMG_2084The rain was a pain in the ass but I was ok with the temps

IMG_2090Snapped this pic as to it seemed a strange outfit to run in. Then Katherine Switzer ran by. Obviously he was security, or maybe he liked running in jeans.

IMG_2091How one person can run and still talk is amazing to me. How one who is 70 years old and can finish a marathon is fucking amazing!

IMG_2092#261 was the bib she was wearing when the race organizer tried to remove it from her. Her boyfriend at the time hip checked the race official to the ground. In 1972 Women were allowed to run in Boston.

IMG_2094Lots of St Jude Hero Runners at the Marathon today. Shout out to my good friend Photo Nikki who did a flying trip this weekend to photograph them. I cheered each and everyone of them as they ran by. *Nikki – I hope we get to see you at Christmas!

IMG_2075There goes our friend Jessie in the Blue/Purple Top!

IMG_2102Here comes Stuart!

IMG_2103He doesn’t look like he has run 16 miles does he?

IMG_2106Dude, you are the hero, we are just two shmo’s standing in the rain smoking cigars!

IMG_2113After 2 hours of standing there when Stuart ran by the parade was coming to an end.

IMG_2115Here is the quitter bus. Trust me when I say that if I ever did decide to run this fucker I would be riding in this by the end of the race

IMG_2120 (1)And then there are these 2 assholes!

Congrats to all the runners and finishers!

Losers Lounge Tribute to The Bee Gees

After a summer hiatus the losers assembled once again at Joe’s Pub and naturally the Loser groupies got a table. This show was a tribute to those Australian boys and Disco Inferno super group The Bee Gees. We were missing some from our group so we invited Vivian Longstreet and her husband to join us. The First set was kind of a yawner as they played a bunch of ‘deep cuts’ that we enjoyed but come on, its a disco band. Play the stuff we know! Needless to say the Second act was much better and Vivian even joined the band and sang a duet with some schmo. “Islands in the Stream” was their choice and even though WordPress won’t allow me to upload the video it is a shame. Vivian killed it.

IMG_1932We were in the back this time. I swear we have not sat in the same seat in this joint.

IMG_1933Opening Song

IMG_1939Who doesn’t love a little Bee Gees A Cappella?

IMG_1941Belize and ACMB Fans (lets see if any of you feckers read this) Doesn’t the Bongo Player look like Ken F of Ken and Mel? Sorry to hear of Ken’s passing. He will be missed.

IMG_1945Yep I was texting UWS Holly who was +6 hours ahead of us in South Africa. It was worth it!

IMG_1947Even Bjarni/Clem was impressed with their rendition of “Grease” or Lubricant as they said they were to be singing.

IMG_1948Vivian getting ready to slay the dragon!

IMG_1950She did great!

IMG_1951Ahem Maria, can you get me a copy of that!

IMG_1952The incomparable Anna Copacabana!

IMG_1956Joe Closing us out!

Hope you had a good weekend! If anyone knows how to take better pics at a concert please let me know. I suck at this.
