Elvis Presley

A Moment of Silence For The King Please

Do you know what you were doing when you found out when Elvis Died? Considering that with the exception of S(Squared) and I think the “Swedish Connection” who are on my team but nobody else can answer that question they weren’t born yet. Anyway I do, I was at Paul Chandler’s House in East Memphis.

More Visitors Than The White House
Bjarni? Purple Dranks?
How cool would that be seeing him at the Stop Light
Can’t wait to see this one in a couple weeks!
I think that a Fire Truck giving a “Love Tap” to someone like this is perfectly acceptable.
Shout Out to the person who for whom we know in this picture. Get Well. We Love You and Your Time isn’t up yet!

Put on some Suspicions Minds Today and Sing it Loud! Have a good Weekend!

Play It Loud Exhibit @ The Met

When I heard that The Met was going to have an exhibit featuring the musical instruments I was pumped. This past Friday Geranium and I made out way back to the UES and took advantage of the nice weather and late summer hours. If you are a Music Nerd or fan of Concerts/Festivals you need to see this. BK – I know you probably won’t want to come from Queens to the UES but you need to see this. It is worth the price of admission. What I found out very quickly was how many guitars I would see and immediately say “Oh that is X’s guitar” without needing to read the description.

Anyway this is going to be a long post with the pictures so enough rambling.

Chuck Berry’s Guitar
Jerry Lee Lewis aka The Killer’s Piano!
Muddy Water’s Guitar
The King’s Guitar – That is Elvis Presley if you didn’t know that. And we can’t be friends.
Who doesn’t recognize Bo Diddly’s Cigar Box Shaped Guitar
Of course it does help when the talent puts their name on the instrument.
The Beatles…..never heard of them
John Lennon’s guitar on loan from Yoko
Pete Townshend’s Les Paul that he didn’t destroy
Edward VanHalen’s Ax
Recognize one of Jimmy Hendrix’s V?
What is going on here? Did someone pull a Thomas Crown on this exhibit?
It says it should be Keith Richards guitar that was gifted to him by a guy named Eric Clapton. What gives?
What an asshole that would Indian giver his guitar? Well he has outlived a lot of old rockers
The Edge’s Stratocaster. I mean he didn’t ask for this for his tour.9
Jimmy Hendrix’s Flying V. Notice the hologram behind the exhibit.
Angus Young’s Guitar and Geranium
Who doesn’t recognize Flea’s Bass
I am going out on a limb here and say that this is Patty Smith’s touring instrument.
Here is for you Mo-Ho Band Geeks
Clarence Carter’s Sax!
No need to name the artist. Everyone knows this custom baby
Steve Miller’s Les Paul
Bruce Springsteen’s Fender
And if you are wondering how I am able to recall all this I would take a picture of the description following the exhibit. I may have been born at night but not last night.
Paul Stanley’s Guitar
I will give you a hint – This song was sung by everyone at My Pleasure Bar in Fayetteville Arkansas in the early 90’s.
“I am a Joker, I am a Smoker, I am a Midnight Toker….”
A 5 Neck Custom? Cheap Trick anyone?
So this is the fragment of Jimmy Hendrix’s Stratocaster that he destroyed in a sacrifice at the Monterrey Pop Festival in 1967. He then dropped to his knees and poured lighter fluid on it and lit it on fire.
Now here is what is cool that I learned. He wanted to upstage Pete Townshend who was famous for destroying his guitar onstage. I think he did it!
Speaking of Pete Townshend
Anyone a Jerry Garcia fan? Here is his beloved “Wolf”
They also had a bunch of posters of artists. What is ironic about this one is that we actually know someone who was at this show. And she is photographed in the background screaming her head off.
The original Woodstock Poster
How cool is that!

Like I said, if you are a music buff you need to see this exhibit that runs until October.

We are caught in a Trap….in Westbury Long Island

A couple weeks back Maria asked us if we wanted to go to the ETA (That is Elvis Tribute Artist) show at the Westbury Theater in Long Island. My first questions were; “Where the hell is Westbury, and how do we get there?” We took the LIRR from the Atlantic Station (again it is so nice not having to go into Penn if we don’t have to) to the Jamaica station and made a transfer. Bill and Maria picked us up from the station and we made a quick drive to the theater.

I have to say that I was impressed with the venue and the line up. Granted it is geared towards the older crowd but the future line up includes; Wayne Newton, Smoky Robinson, Paul Anka and some others. As Maria said to us, Wayne Newton is someone on the list that you have to see before they die. Why do you think that I always go see Jerry Lee Lewis when he would play at MIM BSMF.

The crowd was into it. I gathered that there were a bunch of those in attendance who were in Memphis last weekend and then came back to Long Island to catch the show. Lots of Elvis and Graceland gear in the lobby. This years act was a full piece band and the ETA who were preforming were Cody Ray Slaughter and Shawn Klush who were big ETA winner either from BBC or Elvis Presley Enterprises. They played all the hits and were great with the crowd giving them what the King would done if he were still alive.

Friday Round Up

Tough day yesterday for the Music Industry. Not only was it the 41st anniversary of the death of The King (if you don’t know who that is then we can’t be friends) but Aretha Franklin died yesterday. On the evening of the Candlelight vigil I texted my two fellow Elvis fans and we watched “The Highwaymen”. God Help us when we lose Willie Nelson. That will not be a good day.

Oh and Congrats to Queens Bully’s Chef Melvin “Boots” Johnson on his win on the Memphis version of Chopped. He edged out my friend Ernie Mellor and we plan on getting over that way in the near future to try his food out.

Here are some pictures from the past week;

IMG_3992You can almost feel the heat coming from this ETA from being in Memphis in August, the unforgiving of polyester to breathe and from being with 2 hot ladies

IMG_3989The golden rule is “If it tastes bland or doesn’t have Grease or Cheese on it then it must be good for you.”

Have a good weekend. We got to a ETA tribute in Westbury this weekend.

Pictures of the Week

Wow what a week, I am glad that we are here at Friday! Happy early Fathers Day to all you dads out there. Esp to RJ, Will, The Asian, J.K., and I am sure I am missing some others.  Here are some pictures from this past week.

IMG_3409What is this we see in Tina’s Cuban on W56th? Why yes it is a Midtown Uniform. If you are on the IG seek out Midtown Uniform as you will find even in mid June it is perfectly acceptable to wear a vest with your dress clothes. Hey NJ Dave – walk up front and I will act like I am taking a picture of your fancy backpack.

IMG_3411The Wife texts me her flight info so I know how much time I have before I have to shag ass home and clean the house.

IMG_3382Elvis in a Sardine Can

IMG_3383Why yes Vivian Longstreet has a Notorious RBJ candle in her bathroom. We have a sign that asks that you don’t do cocaine.

IMG_3389Why yes there is Natty Light in Brooklyn

IMG_3410God I love messing with Tourists!

IMG_3416Tickets purchased for Mexico – only thing left is for RJ to get a vasectomy so he doesn’t pollenate Val-O-Rie again in Mexico.

Be careful out there folks. Its a Jungle and this Saturday is the Coney Island Mermaid Festival!

A Dive Bar Find – Trailer Park Lounge & Grill

So my twitter friend @Brizzyc tweeted last weekend about being at an bar establishment that was at in Chelsea saying that New York really has it all.  I made note of it in Yelp as I am always looking for a great establishment on this island that we call home. On Sunday Mrs. Trumpet and I ventured down to The Chelsea Market but were greeted with a “Sorry Folks, Parks Closed” because they were closed for a private event. The weather was crappy on Sunday; cold and rainy and it reminded us of visting in England. Translation – we needed a drink and wanted to watch the basketball games. I found a bar on 8th Avenue on Yelp and we trudged uptown to Flight 151. The bar was somewhat busy but paying $7 for a Bud Light seemed a little steep. Add to that the bartender was not that engaged (aka probably tweeting how outlandish that United was for kicking off some non-rev 10yo girls for wearing leggings) and we started looking into finding another joint to watch the Kentucky game.

I recalled Brizzyc’s tweet and looked into how far the joint that she visited was from our current location. Turns out that Trailer Park L&G was 9 blocks away, so we took out a small loan and paid our tab. Walking up to the joint I noticed the Toilet/Ashtray out front and recalled that I had walked by it at one point. Walking into it was like walking into a time machine. You always know when you find a good bar when they are jamming B52’s Love Shack and the establishment is lit by neon and Christmas Tree Lights. Words really don’t give this joint justice so I will stop now and post the pictures.

I can see a trip to this joint when A Cup and Double Birds come up here this summer. Trust me, put this bar on your short list. The only downside to Trailer Park Lounge & Grill is that instead of ass-raping charging you $7 for a Bud Light they only charge $6.50 but you won’t mind paying this because of the décor. By the way @Brizzyc – let me know when you are heading back there. Anybody who appreciates this type of a joint has to be a good soul.

IMG_0553The Joint is on W23rd @ 8th Ave. It is hard to miss to say the least.

IMG_0554Got to love it when people think that they can charge their iFoam

IMG_0555The front room resembles a bowling Alley and is a riot!

IMG_0556No Trailer Park is complete w/o Snookie, Anna Nicole, and Tammy Faye Baker

IMG_0557Tons of Elvis stuff here too!

IMG_0558I still can’t believe that I lost my Velvet Elvis to a bad breakup. I miss that more than the bad relationship.

IMG_0559If you need to work on your BeeHive they have a dispenser in the waiting room of the Rest Rooms

IMG_0560Pocket Combs? That is new to me!

IMG_0561Love the Cigarette hanging out of the Mannequin’s mouth.

IMG_0562Tonya Harding, she put the Capital T in Trailer Park Trash

IMG_0563Yep that is an old time Airstream on the wall.

IMG_0564The Grill – They have Tater Tots and Cheese! If the former Neighbor makes it up here we will have to take her here for sure.

IMG_0566The Bar Proper

IMG_0567The view of the joint from the back of the house

IMG_0568I wonder if the bird drinks beer here too

IMG_0569The bar is an old Bowling Alley Lane

IMG_0570Seriously I need to find me a Velvet Elvis Tapestry. I would hang it over the bed!

I have a feeling that the next time we find our way in Chelsea this will be on the short list to visit again. Brizzyc – have you ever visited Rudy’s on 8th Ave? You need to put that on your short list.
