Isla Mujeres

Pictures of the Week

So the dogs are getting tired of me and we still have 4 more days till Mary Louise gets back from her “work” trips. I know that she will be glad to be back home and I have done a lot of chores this week getting the house ready for her arrival. Do you know how hard it is to clean a studio? Regardless, I plan on doing another post about enjoying Robopalooza but that is for another day. Here are some pictures that I didn’t post from Mexico and the past weeks.

IMG_4080Geranium approved this picture for me to post. She really hated Isla as you can tell.

IMG_3886Thanks to EGP and EGP’s Mom for the Shirt. I wore it the other day and forgot to snap a pic of me wearing it.

IMG_3883Forgot to snap a pic of the new Cole Slaw Dressing/Marinade

IMG_3870When the (Domestic) Work Wife’s midtown uniform vest wearing husband leaves his iFoam in the bathroom it gets a thorough cleaning, scrubbing, sterilizing and disinfecting.

IMG_3869If she had a Haz-Mat suit she would have worn it. Thankfully I had some gloves that I gave her. #Robocares

IMG_383038 years ago a movie about “a Cinderella story. Outta nowhere. A former greenskeeper, now, about to become the Masters champion. It looks like a mirac… It’s in the hole! It’s in the hole! It’s in the hole!” Came Out. And FRIGGIN LZ NEVER SAW IT! Guess what you are getting for your wedding LZ……

IMG_3824JP moves away from 501 and Ginger’s on 7th Ave closes. The Mighty Flynn (just coined that btw) leaves Leroy Street and then this joint closes. I am afraid if SP moves on then Down the Hatch will close.

IMG_3820You should always look over your shoulder when traveling abroad. You never know who you will run into. Yep going Left to Right we have – New York, New Orleans, New York, Memphis, and Memphis. So great to see the old Memphis Mafia.

IMG_3810Monkey Head Maddy is starting to resemble a predecessor Tiny Toy Poodle that my parents had by the name of Gigi. She loved sleeping in-front of the Refrigerator. Of course back in the day that Avocado side by side had an exhaust at the bottom that kept Gigi warm. Maddy is just lazy and lays out wherever she wants to.

IMG_3721Hey Work Wife – Down in Front!

IMG_3841Don’t feed the PorkOsaurus Web Master

IMG_3772I really am going to be pissed if Mary Louise Geranium and The Mo-Ho’s visit Isla Mujeres on Sunday. And if they get Breakfast Pizza and have Oscars…..

IMG_3758This place is what I think about every Sunday for now on. Just relaxing at the public beach with the island kids and families as I drink my weight in beer and listen to great music.

By the way – I may be posting a special Post on Sunday as it our anniversary of living here in New York.

Sunday Funday Mexico Photo Dump

Mary Louise has left my ass again………for Seattle………then her ass goes to Mexico for a girl’s weekend with Baby Fine Hair so I am sitting on the 3rd floor veranda blogging. Hey Mr 3 First Names and Landlord you guys want to get into some trouble between now and next Monday? I am going to be unsupervised till then. So while I have the wash going on trying to get the Hickory Smoke smell out of them from this past weekend I figure I would post the last of the Mexico pictures, well those that we can recall taking sober.

Isla was a blast, the group we went down with was fun and we had great weather. Oh and we got to see the Cuban Band and I am going on record saying that if Mary Louise goes to see them next Sunday I am going to be really jealous.

IMG_3801Oh I am sure that this is approved in the States at a lot of the job sites.

IMG_3771Poor LZ we had her all confused with the nicknames. “So is he Smoothie, Pepe or what?”

IMG_3777One of these days I am going to get a proper invite instead of having to jump over the fence.

IMG_3753That damn Cuban lead singer made the Future Mrs. Gonzales lose her pants. What goes on in Mexico stays in Mexico.

IMG_3751The Mexican Version of “Mustang Sally” isn’t as good as one would think

IMG_3752Lil Man was getting after it!

IMG_3739It is hard being Carbunkle Trumpet you know? Those 25 Cigars aren’t going to smoke themselves.

IMG_3755Momma L was gettin it as the Cheese Grater Guy was making his rounds.

IMG_3748Sunday in Isla is fun!

IMG_3741I hear that they have good Mediterranean Pizza. I wouldn’t know because my piece was on the fucking floor.

Till Next Time Isla! Maybe we can make a quick trip this winter.

So What did you guys do in Isla?

I fielded a bunch of those questions since we got back on Saturday. My canned answer has always been “We hung out, I smoked at least 1 cigar before 10AM each day, and we ate a bunch of good food. Oh and we drank buckets of beer, had a couple “Ernie Mellor’s Specials” and we drank some post sunset Vodka and Sodas.” So here is the real truth about our trip….That is exactly what we did and it was great!

When we were on the ferry over to the island there was a woman who was returning from being in the states. She was chatting up a couple who were asking her where to eat, where to rent a cart, ect. The woman said that she lived on a sailboat behind Oscar’s Pizza place. Naturally I hated this bitch, I mean she lives in about the same square footage as we do but her location is much prettier and more climate friendlier than ours.

This was the 5th trip over to Isla Mujeres; day trip, 3 night trip before meeting up with English Mike, 5 day trip where 9 months later we became God Parents, an overnight trip in December and then this full week trip. Each trip we keep finding that this island is exactly what we need in that we can go there, unwind, eat some good food and laugh about our Monday through Friday lives.

Now I am sure that there are some of you who look at us and say “Why do you keep doing the same thing over and over again?” They say that doing this and expecting different results is the definition of insanity. Guess what friends….Isla is what we want. No excursions (well they did go fishing this year) no historic tours, no fancy resorts, and pretty much it is perfect for us. More on this later.

IMG_3799Welcome to the Family Manuel

IMG_3788Shrimp Cocktail in a Sweet Chili Sauce and Lime Juice. It was great!

IMG_3779These two! I tell ya we had a blast with them down there.

IMG_3737Not our place but this was right next door to our joint.

IMG_3734Margarita and a beer – Lord knows I had a couple of these down there

IMG_3803Like I said the food really sucked down there too

Like I said, we had a good time down in Mexico. More pics to come.

What do you mean I can’t smoke a Cigar on this Fucking Subway?

And we are back from vacation! I will put more down on this worthless dribble of a blog later this week. We got back Saturday night and I pretty much spent all day yesterday getting ready for a busy week. Seriously, while I type this I am getting the stink eye from Mary Louise. Here are just some pictures from this week and I promise to get back on the horse this week.

IMG_3775I smoked at least 2 Cigars before “My Russian Brother from Another Mother” took emails from his favorite former customer. God Bless you S(Squared) for covering for me. The Ribs and Shoulder are on me this Saturday!

IMG_3731These Two having their “Virgin Strawberry Frozen Drinks”

IMG_3733I promise that we were just drinking Lime Juice……That isn’t Salt On those drinks

IMG_3760Then there is this one! Got to love spending time with the Ponzi Scheme first Hurdle!

IMG_3738Who knew that my favorite Breakfast Food Stand was closed on Sunday’s?

IMG_3757Sunday’s really Suck on Isla Mujeres

IMG_3747Still Mad at you RJ for this! We will have another discussion about this again this weekend.

It was a great vacation and even better with great friends and family.

Pictures of the Week

Wow what a week, I am glad that we are here at Friday! Happy early Fathers Day to all you dads out there. Esp to RJ, Will, The Asian, J.K., and I am sure I am missing some others.  Here are some pictures from this past week.

IMG_3409What is this we see in Tina’s Cuban on W56th? Why yes it is a Midtown Uniform. If you are on the IG seek out Midtown Uniform as you will find even in mid June it is perfectly acceptable to wear a vest with your dress clothes. Hey NJ Dave – walk up front and I will act like I am taking a picture of your fancy backpack.

IMG_3411The Wife texts me her flight info so I know how much time I have before I have to shag ass home and clean the house.

IMG_3382Elvis in a Sardine Can

IMG_3383Why yes Vivian Longstreet has a Notorious RBJ candle in her bathroom. We have a sign that asks that you don’t do cocaine.

IMG_3389Why yes there is Natty Light in Brooklyn

IMG_3410God I love messing with Tourists!

IMG_3416Tickets purchased for Mexico – only thing left is for RJ to get a vasectomy so he doesn’t pollenate Val-O-Rie again in Mexico.

Be careful out there folks. Its a Jungle and this Saturday is the Coney Island Mermaid Festival!

Oh is this your first time to Isla Mujeres *I have heard it both ways

So after the wedding we decided to stay one more day in Mexico and spread the wealth so we headed over to Isla Mujeres for a night. We hitched a ride with Z(squared) to the airport and then headed to ferry port. While we were on the Ultra Mar ferry there was a gentlemen behind us who was talking up 2 Canadian Tourists who were making a day trip to Isla.

Gentlemen – “Oh is this your first time to Isla?”
Tourist – “Yes, we heard that we should visit the island while we are here in Mexico.”
Gentlemen – “Well the thing about Isla is that your first trip will be for a couple hours, then your next trip will be for a couple days, next thing you will be spending a week or month here. Or in my case, years.”
Tourist – “So what makes it so special.”
Gentlemen – “Hard to describe it to someone who has never been there but between the culture, the food and the locals you will probably love it.”

So here we were heading back to Isla and the gentlemen hit the nail on the head. Way back RJ/Mal-o-rie, Mrs. Trumpet and I took a day trip to Isla. Then we stayed for 3 nights before meeting up with English Mike and then last year we spent a week on Isla. Of course the  last trip someone came back with a big souvenir but we definatly had the Isla Bug.

We hung out at North Beach after checking into our hotel in town and had dinner at our favorite restaurant on the island. Naturally drinks at Bobo’s were in order and we checked out the local drinking establishments.

IMG_2342Love the streets in Isla, small quant and cobblestoned

IMG_2343Our hotel for the night. Clean room, fridge and microwave in the room and even had an outside patio.

IMG_2345Swung by Bobo’s to check on if Olivia’s was open for Dinner that night.

IMG_2346Trust me when I say that Mrs Trumpet was excited that this joint was open on a Monday night.

IMG_2349Hey Tilapia Lover & husband and others. So the beach erosion has took a bunch out of the beach here at Phoenix. What was 3 rows of these beach beds before you walked into the water is gone. Currently there is only 1 row and it is tight to say the least.

IMG_2351We ended up heading over to the point and made camp at one of the other beach clubs. Weather was spotty and the wind was a blowing but we had a good time.

IMG_2354Tons of Kite Surfers out there this day.

IMG_2356We kept on waiting on dude to wipe out on the broken dock but he did pretty good.

IMG_2363Our Favorite Soft Shelled Crab Joint was closed on Mondays. Bummer.

IMG_2368To kill time while having some drinks we played dominos.

IMG_2374Still slays me seeing Santa stuff down in the tropics.

IMG_2370A puffy coat? Come on Man! It isn’t that cold!

A good time was had by the Trumpets even if it was only for 24 hours.

Pictures of the Week from a different Island

So here are some pics that I can share with my 6 readers.  Busy day today, heading to 11 Wall Street.

IMG_2009Yes that is a scorpion in the bottle and No I didn’t partake in this!

IMG_2017The lead singer did not play. 6 inch F me pumps and she jammed!

IMG_2020Lots of kids with their families at Playa Norte. So much fun to be a kid on that island.

IMG_2024The Ernest Herbert Mellor Drink Combo (Margarita on the Rocks and Beer)

IMG_2036Post Sunday Funday Adult Swim. Yes everyone was wearing approved swimwear.

IMG_2041That damned Ernest Herbert Drink Special again!

IMG_2047RJ rented a bike for he and I to ride on to the beach.

IMG_2054The best we could figure out was that it was generic Bud Light. Of course $39.90pesos /16 to 1 exchange rate = $2.49 for a 6 pack or .41 cents a beer. GFY Natural Light!

IMG_2058RJ – I am going to bring the cart to BoBo’s. That way we have immediate seating for 4 at the bar.

IMG_2059She needs her hat with that outfit.

IMG_2060Another fun time at Bobo’s

IMG_2061I needed a little religion on Monday morning.

IMG_2131I want to go back to Isla Mujeres! This blows!

From Isla Manhattan to Isla Mujeres & Back

So about 3 years ago we were vacationing with RJ and Mallory down in Mexico. We booked a Whale Shark excursion which we absolutely loved. After our swim with the Fishes the charter boat takes you to the shallow waters of North Beach at Isla Mujeres for lunch and a beer. North Beach is pretty cool so later in the week we took the ferry over to Isla and rented a golf cart for the day and hung out. There was something about the island that reminded us about San Pedro Belize so 2 years we stayed a couple days on the island prior to a week at one of the larger resorts where we kicked it with Papa New Guinea Mike and his family. On that trip we sought out more of the island and again enjoyed ourselves.

Last year, well one couple had a child which drove the other couple to move to New York so there wasn’t a Trumpet’s/RJ & Mallory yearly trip but we planned extra hard for this year. A duplex house was rented with a pool and 6 couples headed down to Isla Mujeres for a weeklong jam fest. One of the houseguests probably said it best with a post she did on her Face Crack Page. I will paraphrase it here;

Isla Mujeres is a hidden gem. The waters were clear, and peaceful (except when traveling in a small boat to swim with the whale sharks- I’ll discuss that shortly). I feel like the majority of the island was post card worthy. I mean, where else can you go and eat impeccable dishes for a portion of the price paid stateside?
E. and I went with a fun group, most of which we didn’t know. Each day was a new adventure. We would typically hop in the infinity pool and then go out for the day. Some of us would go shopping, while others went to explore.
I would recommend some time at North Beach. Sunday’s are the best if you want to witness a first-hand fiesta… Or a singer in 6 inch platforms breaking it down for hours in an itty bitty bikini. That lady had some mad skills, or at least from what I remember. The drinks were cheap and delicious!

I read her note while I was in a cab heading across town and I thought to myself “She gets it” She went on one trip with us and she nailed it on the head. Not many people can travel to an island that primarily has locally run restaurants, English isn’t the predominate language and you don’t flush the toilet paper. I get back to the office from vacation and had a couple people ask me what we did. When I told them that we hung out and didn’t do much some got it and some looked at me like we did nothing but stay drunk and not apply sunscreen. Yeah we did that too!

It was a great trip, we got to hang with our friends for a week. We ate tons of great food that wasn’t that expensive. Drank just a couple beers each day (stop laughing AB, EB, SN, SG, KC, JL, LA, RA, RJ & Mallory) and maybe had a vodka drink…or two.

IMG_2012“CBT just give them your damn Drivers License. It isn’t like you drive up there in New York anyway!”

IMG_2014No we aren’t already burnt, the umbrella was red and cast a weird color on us. Well we were drinking pretty heavily on Sunday.

IMG_2015Me and Mallory

IMG_2023The Cuban Band on Sunday-Funday at Playa Norte! You cannot beat this at all! KLC Man if you want the pic of ‘the bathing suit the lead singer wore just email me. It was impressive!

IMG_2035This was the “after” picture from being at North Beach. Funny thing is that we only rented one cart!!!

IMG_2042Had dinner here one night, the Crab in the Garlic Sauce is to die for! Die For I tell you!

IMG_2044There was a line 3 deep to get breakfast from this lady. I had no idea what I was ordering but told her that I wanted 4 of them. They were beef tacos that was killer and only cost 2 bucks.

IMG_2048View of our Casa from the roof deck.

IMG_2055Another Gem of a joint that we ate at.

IMG_2116This was last night’s meal. Killer and we sat on the street to boot.

IMG_2129Last Sunrise of the Trip. We will be back!

Needless to say, a good time was had by all and the only causality was a monogramed hat!

“The World is Yours”

Sorry for the Scarface reference there folks, you see when I get home I like to watch a movie that makes me unwind. The number of F-Bombs said in the movie, 207 or 1 every 1.21 minute, relaxes me after hearing numerous times walking past the convent on my way home. When we moved up here to Gotham we said that we wanted to take more trips. With our new locale we can take advantage of having 3 airports to grab those cheaper flights rather than the ass rape you get at Memphis International. Also that with more direct flights it helps save some of my precious vacation time that I am allotted by the Tour bus company. This year we currently have on the books; Belize, Tulum, and Isla Mujeres (or is it Muerte) and there is a rumbling of another trip over New Years but that doesn’t look good right now.

The trip to Belize that we are taking next week has us flying chicken bus coach on the Columbian Airline, Avianca, and we are flying direct into El Salvador. The fare was cheap as crap but the drawback is that on the return we layover in El Salvador for 6 hours and get into JFK at 2:30AM on Saturday morning. Mrs. Trumpet will have to carry some small balloons but enough on how CBT was able to get himself bumped into first class. I am not going to rub it in (ok I lied, I am rubbing it in) but the cost of this trip is half what we would pay if we were still living in Memphis. We haven’t booked the Tulum or Isla trip just yet but we can fly direct so how effing nice is that?

Next week is Holy Week and Passover and there is a mass exodus of Manhattanites to various points of call across the globe. Some of our friends are going to Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Maywood – the beach within reach, Fiji, Aruba, Bequia (I had to look it up too) and I think Vegas.  Other than Fiji and Bequia, I think that everything else can be reached via a direct flight. Again, not to bust on Memphis but I think that in Memphis you can fly direct to Atlanta, Destin or Orlando.

My friend Travel Queen, who lives in H-Town, travels all over the world and is someone who Mrs. CBT and I are trying to emulate with cool trips. Every time I look up she is in some foreign country and living the dream. I think she has been to Belize 55 times and has yet to declare residency down there. Granted the flight from H-Town to Belize is shorter than the flight from Memphis to LGA but Damnit woman! TQ probably has been to Belize more than I have and I started going back when I was young. I do kid, we love us some TQ and know that she is getting all this travel out of her system because when Bug-a-boo starts to date and then  she will be busy sewing low jacks into J’s outfits.

So, where would you go if you could? We have 110 different airlines to choose from.

transconwars.pngThat is a lane map from JFK. RJ – You better make sure we get down there FAST!

World-airline-routemap-2009Kinda puts all of this into prospective ya know?

Avianca%20(Colombia)%20787-8%20N780AV%20(13)(Ldg)%20PAE%20(SBY)(46)-MI am betting that the first language they speak on the onboard announcements will be in Spanish.
