Don’t Rock The Boat – Losers Lounge takes to the Hudson

You have heard about our many visits to Joe’s Pub to see The Losers Lounge. During the summer the Losers traditionally take a break and don’t perform but kick back up in the fall months. The next show is next month but there was a special performance that Vivian and Stone had purchased tickets and suggested that we attend. The show was a Disco Themed and it was on the Circle Line boat.

Joe and the Losers didn’t disappoint at all! Playing all the hits and with the backdrop of Manhattan you get the picture. It was cool as crap!

Thanks to Vivian and Stone for suggesting we do this. It was lots of fun

Baby Fine Hair and Kristina

So you recall the bit that I did about how I come up with the names on this worthless dribble of a blog? Funny thing is that Didi and I were one of the first people that “were there” that night that BFH & K met. It was Soulard Mardi Gras and to say that alcohol was involved is an understatement. Anyway I digress so let’s get back to the current day.

So Baby Fine Hair (BFH) and Kristina decided to quit living in sin and let their babies not be considered Bastard children. The wedding was great, the food delicious, the band rocking and the drinks were strong and cold. What else could you ask for? It was great seeing everyone in St. Louis and please come on up to the Liberal New York and play with us.

IMG_4230Dance with Me Kathy and us! The first snowflake that hits the ground in Grand Rapids and her little ass will be in Florida!

IMG_4258Some of The Sikeston 5 (even though Weed was “in a much younger grade”)

IMG_4255This Mental Image will be burned into my subconscious for a long time. And I thought that you should enjoy this as much as I did!

It was a fun time and congrats to BFH & Kristina!

Boom And It’s Friday! Pics from the Week

What is that in the air that I smell? Is the eau de urine y feces that wafts in the Times Square subway station? Is that the putrid smell of chestnuts roasting on an open food cart? The smell of 150 sweaty New Yorkers crammed into a barely functioning AC unit on a 4 train? Why no, that is the smell of Fall. Finally, we have some cooler than “Two Rats Fucking in a Wool Sock” weather up here. Naturally the Midtown Uniform Bro’s rejoiced like someone walked in with a fresh case of Smirnoff Ice but I think we may be finally done with summer.

Mary Louise returns this evening so I am going to head straight into the pictures but don’t worry.  I will post some of the shenanigans that we did last weekend at a future date. Have a good weekend.

IMG_4299Who the F eats this crap? Oh wait I bet that “Shannon the ASPCA violator” does.

IMG_4297Khakis, Midtown Uniform Vest, Tennis Shoes – That is triple points if scoring at home

IMG_4262

“Sir what can I help you with? I saw that you rang your flight attendant call button?”

“Yes, my window is very dirty, can you send someone out to clean it before our flight back to NYC? I like to see the canals of Gowanus when flying into LGA.”

IMG_4253They did’t clean my window but they did comp me some extra drinks so it wasn’t a total loss.

IMG_4245Hey Mike King – Guess what song that the brother of the bride is singing with the nieces?

Have a good weekend and I hope that your pro or college football team wins this weekend. And for those of you wondering what song Matt was singing…..MUSTANG SALLY! #trynottoletthatbeinyourheadallday

An Evening With David Byrne

Back in May when we were in the throws of our move to Brooklyn with WAY too much shit I recall seeing the two above tweets. AB is a professional concert goer and has seen many a good show. For her to make this revelation, well my interest was peaked. Now when I saw a similar tweet about the same show from JS, oh this got my full attention. Later in the day and I can’t recall who said it on Twitter but the comment “Top 5 Concert” was mentioned about the same show. Now that is a ballsy statement folks, you don’t normally have that strong of a review that many times about an outdoor Music Festival. Needless to say, I was on my iPhone googling his tour and found out that he would be playing in Brooklyn in mid September so I made note of it.

Mary Louise informed me about 6 weeks prior to show that she would be heading to Japan following our trip to St. Louis and wouldn’t be able to attend. I was bummed, I really wanted to see this show. A couple of days prior to our leaving for the weekend I was on the subway heading home listening to Pandora (how it works w/o not being hooked to internet the whole time, I don’t know) and a Talking Heads song came on. It was a sign so I texted The UES Russian and asked her if she would like to go to the show on a Monday. I booked the tickets, paid a kings ransom for the tickets but what the hell. You can’t take with you and when in doubt – You Buy The Fucking Concert Tickets!

Now here is where AB & JS are probably going to agree with me. There are really no proper words on how to explain the show to someone who hasn’t seen it. I know that is a Bullshit comment but I really can’t describe; The Energy, The Passion, The Strange, and The Music that went on this past Monday Night. They did have 2 hour 21 songs setlist as compared to BSMF but the energy that a 66 year old man puts into this show was unbelievable. Oh and they started this back in March and it is going to be a long tour too. David Byrne is a consummate artist and performer. After seeing this show on Monday night, Yes AB & JS – I agree with you 100% on your tweets.

Folks – If you missed it in Memphis, NOLA or all parts south, please pick out a city on the tour and go see it. Now I have failed to mention that the Kings Theater in East Flatbush is an unbelievable venue to see it. To explain it to my Memphians, think Orpheum but on Steroids. To see David Byrne in the Kings Theater – It was a Top 5 Concert Experience. Yep I went there too!

IMG_4277Opening the show with “Here”

IMG_4278Not a lot of fancy set creations here folks. It is just Music, Passion, and Energy being put on this stage.

IMG_4280This is what I was really impressed about this show was that all the music being produced on that stage came from the instruments that the band were carrying around. No sitting behind a 21pc drum set or keyboard for the Band. They carried their shit around and put on a choreographed show.

IMG_4281I am still in awe of this concert

IMG_4282I think we have a little bit of Elvis here with the drop light.

Thanks to the UES Russian for being my date and if you caught the show too I bet you can agree with me that David Byrne gets better with age.

Where do you come up with these names?

Sorry for the delay in posting. I was busy last week because we had a long weekend to the Midwest for a wedding and I am getting back into the swing of things. Oh that and Mary Louise is +13 hours ahead of me in Japan so I am running this household all by myself. What pisses me off is that Mary Louise won’t tell me the Final Jeopardy answers since she is a day ahead of me. I hate to tell RJ but I think that she has found a new Sushi Buddy.

While we were in the Midwest this past weekend I had a couple of my readers of this worthless dribble ask me; “Where do you come up with the names of the people you interact with?” Naturally I “change the names to protect the innocent or non-sober” but some of the Mo-Ho’s were asking me how I created their names. Let me give you some insight into some of the players you read on this worthless dribble;

  • Mary Louis/Mrs. Trumpet – Thanks To Vivian Longstreet, she penned this because it is her soap opera name. She is also a perfume designer.
  • Maria – She keeps her name because she is my trusted consigliere and quite frankly she knows where all the bodies are buried. Seriously, has anyone seen Trucker Jim or Box of Rocks lately? I rest my case.
  • The Work Wife, The International One – Well she is a work friend and that is what she does
  • The Work Wife, The Domestic One – Currently Vacant
  • The Work Wife, The Managing One – See “Work Wife, The Domestic One” because she got a promotion.
  • The Asian Fireman – Well his last name is Lee so you do the math here.
  • Mr. 3 First Names – What can I say, this Staten Island resident has 3 first names in his first and last names.
  • Lady Barrister/Landlord – It is what she does and she is the landlord to Mr 3 first names
  • Z Squared – Couples name for 2 people whose last names start with Z (this isn’t rocket science folks)
  • UWS Holly – Someone names Holly who may live in the Upper West Side?
  • Baby Fine Hair (Haven’t spoken about her lately) but this person uses a shampoo that is specifically for people with Baby Fine hair. Hey it is better than me calling her “Person with a Mongoloid Foot Tattoo”!

Now this past weekend at this wedding we attended a new nickname was created. No it wasn’t from my (So in need of therapy) brain. It was from her own Flesh and Blood…..

With that, and I will do a proper blog post on the wedding and weekend. Congrats to Baby Fine Hair and Kristina on their wedding this past weekend!!!!

IMG_4270Hey don’t blame me Kiki (what I used to call Kristina before this weekend) blame your brother! Congrats and we were so happy to share with you your special day!

For those of you who weren’t in St. Louis the Celebrant (the bride on the left’s brother) when announcing the names of the newly married instead of saying K—n inserted his own wife’s name, Kristina, by mistake. Me I am going to roll with it!

The Carl Lipbalm Memorial Scholarship Winner Comes to The Big Apple

Remember back 2 years ago when we had one of our niece’s come up to celebrate her graduating from High School. So we had a cousin aka “Love Bug” come up this past weekend. The agenda for the past weekend was dinner Thursday Night. Bum around town on Friday and have dinner with the other cousin in downtown Brooklyn. Saturday a play was in order and then we would figure out dinner.

We really had a great time spending the weekend with “Love Bug” and naturally watching her experience a lot of things that we now take for granted up here. “Love Bug” had a blast and she found out a couple of things; Raw Oysters on the half shell are a hard no. Breaded and Baked Clams ala Patrizias of Brooklyn are also frowned upon. But I am happy to report that escargot from Blue Ribbon gets a pass and she loved street meat from The Hallal Guys.

The weekend was fun and we had a blast with her. Thanks to her momma and daddy for letting us hang out with her.

IMG_4154Love Bug Takes on The Big Apple and Times Square!

IMG_4155The closest that I made it to a Broadway musical! That is Mary Louise’s job!

IMG_4156All kidding aside Times Square is still pretty cool and has an undeniable energy about it!

IMG_4163Getting a slice at Joe’s Pizza! Can’t get anymore Authentic NYC than this!

IMG_4166Here Love Bug is about to take down here first Raw Oyster!

IMG_4167Unfortunately I don’t have the picture of her reaction when she put the ‘snot like’ oyster in her mouth. She was a good sport by trying it! I mean they don’t have an abundance of saltwater oysters in Northwest Arkansas!

IMG_4174“Wait we are going to an intersection in Midtown Manhattan to have lunch?”

IMG_4176We made our way downtown by Trinity Church/The 911 Church and she found some old dead guy’s grave. For those of you wondering – the white grave is Alexander Hamilton’s grave. I hear he had a play written about him.

IMG_4184Wait it isn’t my birthday……

IMG_4183Let us Celebrate “Love Bug’s” fake birthday!

IMG_4187The Traffic here really bites you know Uncle CBT? Why didn’t you get me an Uber for Helicopters?

IMG_4190I can see my house from here! Sadly the day we went to the roof it was overcast but I am sure that some good snaps were taken.

Come back anytime Love Bug but make sure that you don’t tell your little brother about what goes on in New York. Next year is his turn.

Pictures of the Week – Labor Day Shenanigans

Sorry I haven’t been doing my job lately, the abbreviated week and the start of school has kept us busy. Hope everyone is happy that College Football is back in the swing of things and that now the NFL is about to start back up too. Here are some pics from this past Labor Day weekend.

IMG_4113I think that if I didn’t wear my traditional Seersucker Suit on the last Friday of the summer my team would revolt.

IMG_4119I wonder what Asshole lives in this eyesore. View from the Murphrank’s roofdeck.

IMG_4122Believe it or not we didn’t stage this picture. Maya could have been trying to cuddle up with Rocky because she was afraid of the humans. I think this was when Bobcat decided to ‘take a nap’!

IMG_4129She is as happy as a cat in a canary store.

IMG_4130“Oh sure you can sit on the throne and wear those funny crowns and let you believe that you are the boss of us.” #saidnooneever

IMG_4110BEFORE YOU START JUDGING ME – Not one bottle of this is mine (I only buy half gallons & Mary Louise’s maintenance wine comes in standard bottles) but I wondered if the old drunk South Bluff Neighbor moved into our building.

IMG_0505First Day of School for The Little Bastid! He is growing so tall!

IMG_4149We are those people who now take our dog to bars. In New York if a bar doesn’t serve food then dogs are welcome. Maya likes the bars in Boerum Hill.

This weekend we have The Carl Lipbalm Memorial Caddy Scholarship winner in town so I am sure we will have some fun pics to share with you next week. Keep it light.
